A BIT ABOUT US

Turning Interest Into Action

The Harmony School of Music opened its doors to private lesson students and their families on June 1, 2017. We are a 501(c)(3) tax exempt nonprofit organization, and currently offer private and group classes in violin, viola, cello, and double bass.

We believe socioeconomic status should not be a barrier to achievement. Music is the conduit to gain self-confidence, problem-solving skills, goal-setting ability, and good character. All of these characteristics are the primary focus of the lessons we teach, and the basis of a family-centered community that celebrates the individuality and the potential of each and every child.

Imagine a place where students of every age, color, religion, neighborhood, family background, etc. have a positive and nurturing community in which they are challenged to work hard and their achievements are recognized. A place where each unique student is accepted for who they are, and is pushed to reach the best version of themselves, with a custom-tailored educational approach. Where parents, guardians, siblings, aunts, uncles, and grandparents are not only welcome, but are deliberately included in the learning process, growing and learning with the student. Where each family has support through good days and bad, helps each other along the way, and celebrates success together.

Sounds amazing, doesn't it? That is the future we want to build for all students with a desire to learn and the adults who support them. As we grow, we will post stories, perspectives, and news about our programs, events, performances, and how community members can be a part of the movement we are building. We are delighted to be a part of the Cedar Rapids family and to work together to create a nurturing learning environment built on high quality instruction, artistic achievement, and joy.
